The degree to which the inventory quantity and location records within an inventory management system match the physical inventory in a warehouse. This metric is typically expressed as a percentage and directly impacts operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and financial accuracy.

High inventory accuracy prevents stockouts, reduces excess inventory holding costs, and ensures accurate order fulfillment. Poor accuracy leads to overselling unavailable items, emergency expedited shipments, and decreased customer trust. Most warehouses target 99%+ accuracy for fast-moving items and 95%+ for slower-moving stock.

For example, if your WMS shows 100 units of a product in location A-12-3, but a physical count reveals only 85 units, your accuracy rate for that item is 85%. Regular cycle counting, barcode scanning, and real-time inventory updates through integrated WMS technology help maintain optimal accuracy levels and minimize discrepancies between system records and actual stock.
