A temporary status assigned to inventory that prevents items from being picked, shipped, or moved until quality issues are resolved or additional inspections are completed. When inventory is placed on quality hold, the WMS blocks all outbound transactions for those specific items or lots while still maintaining accurate inventory counts and locations.

This status is critical for maintaining product quality standards and regulatory compliance, particularly in industries like pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, or automotive parts where defective products could pose safety risks or legal liability. Quality holds also protect brand reputation by preventing potentially problematic inventory from reaching customers.

For example, if a batch of food products fails temperature validation during receiving, a warehouse manager can place that entire lot on quality hold until quality assurance teams can conduct additional testing. The WMS will automatically prevent pickers from selecting those items for outbound orders while the investigation is ongoing.
